A PROPHETIC CALL TO SERVE THE LORD’S WILL

The way of the kingdom insists that a man must set self-gain aside (John 6:38) to serve GOD’S will by seeking to fulfill the things that GOD has written about him from eternity past. For we are all journeying from eternity past through earth to the future of eternity. Everyone born into this world once existed in eternity, the scriptures bear witness to the fact that GOD knew us before we were formed in the belly (Jeremiah 1:5), and we were born for the sole purpose of fulfilling the things that were written about us in the volume of the books from eternity past (Hebrews 10:5-7).

Everything finds its beginning and consummation in CHRIST, because HE is before all things and by HIM all things consist (Colossians 1:17). For without HIM was not anything made that was made (John 1:3), and all things were created for HIS pleasure (Revelation 4:11), so HE gives definition and meaning to creation because everything exists for HIM. For the human race, this revelation of existing for HIM will be fully manifested in the New Jerusalem (i.e. eternity future), where we would serve HIM (i.e. CHRIST) and the FATHER in the New Jerusalem temple as priests (Revelation 7: 9 – 15) forever, this is the final destination of every man who inherits GOD’s kingdom. Knowing this, why not begin by serving HIM now, for he that serves the LORD’s will shall abide forever (1st John 2:17), having a firm assurance of inheriting GOD’s kingdom because the greatest in HIS kingdom is the one who serves HIS will (Mark 10:35 – 45) by fulfilling the things that were written about him/her in the volume of the books from eternity past.

Although the LORD loves all HIS children, there is a special heritage that has been reserved for those who serve HIS will. In John 14:21, the LORD JESUS said, “He that hath MY commandment and keepeth them (i.e. serving the LORD’s will), he it is that loveth ME: and he that loveth ME shall be loved of MY FATHER, and I will love him, and will manifest MYSELF to him. This implies that in GOD’s kingdom, a special attention is given to those who are aligned to HIS purposes by serving HIS will. To such ones, the LORD JESUS will reveal HIMSELF and demonstrate HIS power, in other words, the LORD will go an extra mile for those who serve HIS will.

I would have us know that service to the LORD is broadly classified into the following:

  1. Seeking HIM to know HIM. This is done majorly in the place of prayer, meditation, and the study of scriptures, ‘personal prayer and fasting drills’. Basically, this involves the regular acts of consecration. By fulfilling the regular acts of consecration consistently one is said to be seeking the LORD with all HIS heart (Jeremiah 29:12-13).
  2. Ensuring to do that which HE commits to you by obeying HIS instructions ‘promptly’ and ‘regularly’ (Joshua 1:8, Isaiah 1:19).
  3. Being committed to serving in HIS house (i.e. the church).

I would also have us know that service to the LORD must be in this order – ‘seeking the LORD to know HIM’ and ‘seeking to do that which HE commits to you’ have more emphasis and priority than ‘serving in HIS house (i.e. the church)’. This implies that our personal acts of service to the LORD come first before our collective acts of service to HIM, thus, seeking the LORD to know HIM and thereafter do HIS will always come first before our acts of service to HIS house (i.e. the church). This is because the first priority of every true disciple is to know the LORD (Philippians 3:10) and do HIS will (John 4:34). Joshua 24:15 says, “… Choose you this day whom ye shall serve … But as for me (i.e. personal) and my household (i.e. collective) we shall serve the LORD”. The preceding verse of scripture (Joshua 24:15) talks about ‘service to the LORD’, you will notice that ‘me’ (which stands for personal service to the LORD) comes before ‘my household’ (which stands for collective service to the LORD). So one’s personal act of service to the LORD comes first before his/her collective act of service to the LORD.

Finally, I will conclude with Ecclesiastes 12:13 which says, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear GOD and keep HIS commandments (i.e. serve HIS will): for this is the whole duty of man”. From the preceding verse of scripture (Ecclesiastes 12:13), notice the phrase ‘this is the whole duty of man’, this goes further to tell us that we exist to serve the LORD’s will.

Blessed are you who aligns to the LORD’S purposes by serving HIS will, for the LORD shall reveal HIMSELF to you, and you shall behold manifestations of HIS power and favor towards you (John 14: 21, 23).

Blessed are you who sets ‘self gain’ aside to seek first HIS kingdom and righteousness, for that which you desire shall gravitate towards you (Matthew 6:33).

Blessed are you who make self-sacrifices for the purpose of serving the LORD’S will (especially for the gospel), for you shall reap the rewards in hundredfold (i.e. hundred times) while on earth and in the age to come (i.e. the future of eternity) (Mark 10:29-30).
