A PROPHETIC CALL FOR SANCTIFICATION (POSSESSING ONE’S VESSEL IN SANCTIFICATION 1st Thessalonians 4:2-5)

It is the will of GOD that all men would be saved (i.e. receive salvation) and thereafter, come to the knowledge of the truth (1st Timothy 2:3-4), for the grace of GOD that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men (Titus 2:11). Nevertheless, only those who accept the word of truth shall be sanctified to the LORD (John 17:17), for HE wills that we would be sanctified. The scriptures testify to this saying, “And the very GOD of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray GOD your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our LORD JESUS CHRIST” (1st Thessalonians 5:23). For he who embraces sanctification shall be blameless before the LORD. So there is a call to receive the ‘word of truth’ to the end that we would be sanctified, and thereafter, be blameless before the FATHER.

Expounding on ‘sanctification’, it is GOD’S approach to separating us from the things that can become a barrier between HE and us, with the major barrier being the acts of sin (i.e. the works of the flesh stated in Galatians 5:19-21). Isaiah 59:1-2 says, “1Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: 2But your iniquities (consistent works of sin a.k.a. the works of the flesh) have separated (i.e. become a barrier) between you and your GOD, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear”. From the preceding verses of scripture (Isaiah 59:1-2), we see that one of the major barriers between GOD and mankind was the works of sin (i.e. the works of the flesh). So one of the major purpose of sanctification is to separate us from the barrier of the works of sin to the end that we would enjoy an unbroken fellowship with the FATHER (Romans 6:10-11 Amplified Version).

Sanctification is the effect of consecration, for he that embraces consecration shall attain to sanctification. In other words, consecration is the bedrock (i.e. foundation) for sanctification. For he who consecrates himself to the LORD shall be sanctified. The scriptures attest to this saying, “But in a great house, there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge (i.e. consecrate) himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, ‘sanctified’, and meet for the MASTER’S (i.e. the LORD) use, and prepared unto every good work (2nd Timothy 2:20 -21). This is the way of the LORD that every one of HIS children will embrace consecration which leads to sanctification to the end that they would be blameless before HIM. For he who is blameless is said to be of ‘good report’, and only by good report can a man bring glory and honour to the LORD (John 15:8), and this is the man whom the LORD will use (i.e. entrust with heavenly responsibilities) (2nd Timothy 2:20 -21). This goes a long way to affirm the fact that even though the labourers (i.e. GOD’S stewards) are few (Luke 10:2), GOD will only entrust heavenly responsibilities to a sanctified vessel (i.e. believer) (2nd Timothy 2:20 -21). This has always been HIS standard.

So there is also a call to embrace consecration which is the foundation of sanctification, ultimately to the end that we become a vessel that is sanctified to meet the MASTER’S (i.e. the LORD’S) use and prepared unto every good work (2nd Timothy 2:20-21).

Points to Note

  1. Sanctification begins by receiving the ‘word of truth’, this is the ‘engrafted (i.e. implanted) word’ which when received, it is able to save one’s soul (i.e. sanctification) (James 1:21).
  2. Consecration is the bedrock (i.e. foundation) for sanctification. Without consecration, there can be no sanctification. This implies that we receive the grace for sanctification through consecration (2nd Timothy 2:20 -21).
  3. GOD will only entrust HIS work (i.e. give heavenly responsibilities) to the believer who yields to sanctification (2nd Timothy 2:20-21).

Conclusion

Blessed is the one who receives the ‘word of truth’ to the end that he shall be sanctified (John 17:17). For ‘the word of the LORDcleanses (John 15:3, Ephesians 5:26) and purifies every vessel (i.e. believer) that receives it.

Blessed is he that embraces the way of sanctification (i.e. consecration to sanctification), for he shall be a vessel unto honour (2nd Timothy 2:20), meet for the MASTER’S use, and prepared unto every good work (2nd Timothy 2:21) to bear fruit (i.e. kingdom profit) and bring glory to the FATHER (John 15:8).

Blessed is he whom the LORD entrusts with heavenly responsibilities, for he shall receive the reward in hundredfold (i.e. 100 times) both here on earth and in eternity (Mark 10:29-30).
